Kreider Farms Mural: Stop No. 10

The Details

  • Location: 1054 Temperance Hill Rd, Lititz, PA 17545
  • Artists: Wayne Fettro, Two Dudes Painting
  • Year Created: 2012

The Story

A local landmark along Temperance Hill Road, the Kreider Farms cow barn mural was originally painted in 2012 on the wooden exterior of the barn by local artist, Wayne Fettro. When the barn was later re-sided, the artwork was carefully preserved—traced and repainted by Two Dudes Painting to maintain its original charm and character.

The mural features Bessie, also known as “Bossy,” one of Noah and Mary Kreider’s original cows. Bessie earned her nickname for her strong personality and cleverness. Impatient at milking time, she figured out that pulling a rope by the barn door would open it. On mornings when the Kreider boys were running late, Bessie would take matters into her own mouth—literally—opening the doors herself. By the time the boys arrived, the cows would already be in place, as if to say, “Where have you been?” Hence the name… Bossy!

The mural was inspired by an employee idea through Kreider Farms’ internal “Idea Factory,” suggesting enhancements to make the farm more visually engaging to the community. Today, the mural is illuminated from dusk to dawn, making it a recognizable and welcoming sight for both locals and visitors.

As part of the Manheim Arts Festival mural trail, this piece reflects Kreider Farms’ commitment to creativity, community, and celebrating its agricultural roots.
